Ellen Birkett Morris, When Evening Had Come

Erasure Poem of Pope Francis’ Address on Covid-19, Paper, 9 x 11 in. each, 2020

This poem reflects my obsession with the beauty and fragility of life, of the way the horrible and the beautiful can stand side by side, and the belief that challenges can make us better people. It also reflects the power of making deliberate choices to be in the world in a particular way. We can turn to despair, fear, and anger and keep ourselves separate or we can embrace creativity, foster grace, and stand together.
