“The Map of the World was written upon her face."

My work is about the grotesque and questions what actually is grotesque. How are some physical and representational manipulations and deformations not accepted, yet altering one's self towards a standard of beauty or expectation is? In other words, if we're Photoshopping, why are we allowed to Photoshop in only one narrow way?

Currently, we are all asked to make masks for ourselves during this event. Masks are protective gear and become part of your face, your style, your whole package. Our appearance is altered now by having to wear an essential mask. Why can't masks either reflect who you are or serve as a magical defense or barrier?
