Jaylin Monet’ Stewart, We Will Get Through This Together
Chalk drawing, 10 x 10 ft., 2020
The series We Will Get Through This Together was created to give my highest honor to health care workers on the front line, fighting Coronavirus and taking care of our beloved citizens. I started this chalk art series while quarantined in my studio and have created four pieces since then: one in West Louisville, two at Norton Children’s Hospital Downtown, and this piece, located at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital on Dutchmans Lane.
Creating this work has been a very liberating experience for me as an artist. Healthcare and essential workers from all over have been so appreciative, even our Governor Andy Beshear. During times like this, we are reminded that “The Power of Art” is real and very therapeutic. I am honored to be able to lift up others, while it seems like the world is falling apart.
