Seth Fite, Wash Your Hands (with Hope for Better Times)

Oil on canvas, digital media, 11 x 14 in., 2020

This illustration is reminiscent of 1920s advertising. The nostalgic prohibition style, inspired by Louisville's history and emblematic "Bourbon and Horse" aesthetic, shares public guidelines for hand washing.

The clinical look of many public service announcements can be off-putting. So in a manner that is filled with nostalgia, regional pride, and hope-filled messaging, I took a positive and cheery approach to public health guidelines. While measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 should be taken seriously, we can still encourage each other.
