Patrick Wensink, Junk Drawer Spy Club: Kentucky Time Machine Mission
Children’s participatory online DIY craft club, 2020
Please feel free to download and print instructions at home.
Junk Drawer Spy Club started as a set of daily challenges aimed at entertaining my autistic 8-year-old son. When the Covid-19 quarantine began, I moved the challenges online to encourage cooped up kids to get creative by making crafts to help solve an ongoing storyline. This innovative mix of fiction storytelling and children's crafts ideally offers a chance for escape and community by sharing creations online.
Junk Drawer Spy Club offers up a new Kentucky-tastic mission in which the world's worst criminals, Kirk and Dirk Zobo, have stolen every thoroughbred in the state in order to make a "One-million horsepower getaway van." 8-12 year olds are challenged to craft a time machine and solve the crime at home.
