Taylor Sanders, Empty Stomachs
Installation, Brown paper bags, 18 ft x 4 ft x 11 in., 2020
Drawing from personal experience, Taylor’s recent work is based on social and racial issues in the community, especially in West Louisville, where Taylor grew up. Many children in Louisville rely on school meals to eat and many neighborhoods in Louisville are considered food deserts. In an effort to raise awareness about COVID-19 intensifying local child hunger, Taylor created this installation of empty lunch-sized brown paper bags. Further, the arrangement of bags, packed together on the pavement, resembles inner city apartment buildings, symbolizing where much of this problem is happening.
