Mary Rose Weiter, Together, We are Never Apart

Fabric, shirts, gloves, safety vests, aprons, department badges, glue, and thread on cotton blanket, 72 x 80 in., 2020

As with any work of art, the hope is for viewers to feel. Any time I am inspired to create, it is because there is emotion that I wish to communicate. Being a teacher has not offered me many opportunities to produce work of this scale in a while, but I felt moved by the community. Each day I would wake up, greet my students online with the daily art challenge for class, and be in awe by their perseverance. Seeing what families and friends are going through has given me greater appreciation for what I have. My piece serves as a reminder that even when we are apart, we are not alone.
