nina kersey, Two of the Same Portraits

Acrylic on unstretched canvas, 26 x 28 in. each, 2020

nina challenged herself to create two similar paintings that encapsulate the emotions that she strives to convey in her larger, full body pieces. By focusing on the face instead of the body, she creates a narrative around expression rather than form. Fatigue and boredom are made apparent, highlighting how numb these characters have become to the discomfort they’re being subjected to, a nod to quarantine and isolation.
